    Mode of action and application of hydraulic solenoid valves

    Solenoid valves are an important component in many applications where precise control of liquids or gases is required. Industrial applications of solenoid valves would be, for example, in compressed air control, chemical metering, and gas or liquid flow control.

    Why hydraulic valves?

    In hydraulic systems, energy is transmitted between the pump and the consumer via appropriate lines. In order to achieve the required quantities at the consumer – force or torque, speed or rotational speed as well as the direction of movement – and to maintain prescribed operating conditions of the plant, hydraulic valves are installed in the lines as energy control elements. These hydraulic valves control or regulate the pressure and flow rate. In addition, each hydraulic valve represents a resistance.

    What is a solenoid valve?

    A solenoid valve is an electromechanical valve controlled by the use of an electromagnetic field, in contrast to manual control valves…. It consists of a solenoid coil and a valve body that can regulate the flow of liquids or gases.

    How does solenoid valve work?

    The operation of a solenoid valve is based on the principle of electromagnetic force. When current flows through the solenoid, it generates a magnetic field that attracts or repels the valve body. This opens or closes the valve and the flow is controlled accordingly.

    How is a solenoid valve controlled?

    Solenoid valves are controlled by a control unit that regulates the current through the solenoid coil. Depending on the application, the control unit can supply a direct voltage (DC) or an alternating voltage (AC).

    Hydromot solenoid valves

    Our solenoid valves are so-called directional spool valves. These hydraulic valves are valves in whose housing bore a spool piston is movably arranged.

    With our solenoid valves are direct operated valves. The spool is actuated directly by magnets. Due to the static and dynamic forces occurring in the solenoid valve as an effect of pressure and flow, direct operated solenoid valves are only designed up to NG10.

    We have 4/2, 4/3 and 6/2 solenoid valves with different wiring diagrams.

    6/2 way reversing valves are suitable for attachments, telehandlers, excavators, backhoe loaders, wheel loaders, agricultural machinery, among others. Change-over valves (6/2 directional control valves) are used to switch over a dual function by electrical control and are used between a hydraulic control block and two different hydraulic functions. The 6/2 directional control valve makes it possible to select one of the two hydraulic functions (e.g. hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic motor, etc.) in advance, which is then actuated from the control block. The 6/2-way changeover valve is spring-loaded and returns to the initial position without tension.

    Our pipeline switching valves are suitable for working pressures up to 250 bar and flow rates up to 60 l/min. The flangeable version is suitable for pressures up to 210 bar and flow rates up to 90 l/min.

    What are the types of solenoid valves?

    Direct operated solenoid valves

    Direct operated solenoid valves are valves where the solenoid coil directly opens or closes the valve body. These valves are simple in design and are well suited for low pressure and flow applications.

    Servo controlled solenoid valves

    Servo-controlled solenoid valves use a servo mechanism to control the valve body. These valves are typically more powerful than direct operated valves and are suitable for higher pressure and flow applications.

    Standard closed (NC) solenoid valves

    Normally closed solenoid valves are valves that are closed when de-energized and open when current flows through the solenoid coil. These valves are often used in safety-critical applications because they close automatically in an emergency.

    Regular maintenance and servicing of solenoid valves is important to ensure longer life and optimum performance.
