Hydraulic oil
With the help of hydraulic oil, power is transmitted to hydraulic systems. The oil transmits force through pressure and movement while simultaneously providing lubrication to the components and protection against corrosion.
HLP refers to a specific type of hydraulic oil with specific properties. The designation "HLP" stands for "Hydraulic oil with additives to improve corrosion protection, aging resistance, and to increase wear protection". The number (e.g., 46) indicates the oil's viscosity class at 40 degrees Celsius, measured in Centistokes (cSt). For example, HLP46 is a medium-viscosity hydraulic oil suitable for a wide range of temperatures and applications.
Changing hydraulic oil should occur regularly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the hydraulic system. The exact intervals can vary depending on the manufacturer, type of machine, and operating conditions.
Many machine manufacturers specify oil change intervals, based on operating hours or a period of time:
- In case of visible contamination or impurity of the oil
- In case of a significant drop in performance of the hydraulic system
- At least once a year, if no other specifications are given
Regular checks of the oil condition through visual inspections or oil analyses can help determine the optimal time for an oil change. In many cases, cleaning the hydraulic oil with special filtration systems is also sufficient.
